“It is health which is real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver” - Gandhi
An organisation of health professionals, students and community members taking action to address climate change and related threats to health
The Medical Association for Prevention of War (Australia) is a professional not-for-profit organisation that works to promote peace and disarmament
'Climate change and nuclear war are the two biggest existential threats facing humanity. Nuclear war will be sudden, catastrophic and have massive lasting impacts on climate. Climate change increases the likelihood of war, while war itself is a huge producer of carbon emissions and damage to our environment. We must take urgent action on both these issues'
The Climate and Health Alliance is a coalition of health care stakeholders who work together to see the threat to human health from climate change and ecological degradation addressed through prompt policy action. The membership of CAHA includes organisations and individuals from across the health sector, with organisations representing health care professionals from medicine, nursing, public health, social work and psychology, as well as health care service providers, research and academic institutions, and health consumers.
The only organisation of medical professionals in Australia solely focused on promoting good health through care of the environment.
“The Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association (VAHPA) is the specialist trade union representing a growing membership of around 5,000 Allied Health Professionals working in public and private hospitals, community health centres and private clinics. Global Ideas is a diverse community of innovators creating better health for all.
"Let’s be real. Climate change harms our health. We humans live in a shared home and face a collective choice. Do we take the path of fear and inaction leading to global deaths from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoeal disease, heat stress and freak weather events? Or do we take our future into our own hands and transform our polluting food, energy and transport systems with the technology that we already have available? We can create a win-win with cleaner air, water and healthier lifestyles that are also cheaper for us. Let’s make that choice loud and clear. Join the movement for climate action.” Global Ideas Chair Dr Lloyd Nash.
Social Workers for Climate Action (SW4CA) is an alliance of social work practitioners, students, educators and researchers concerned about the impacts of climate change on human wellbeing, and committed to taking action to address this crisis.
Climate change poses an existential threat to humanity. Social workers are uniquely skilled to respond to this threat through practice focused on reaction to climate impacts, but also adaptation and mitigation. SW4CA strongly believes that it is our ethical obligation to do so. Join us!
